This page explains what data this website handles, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we run no advertising trackers, we measure visits with Google Analytics only if you allow it, we don’t sell or share data, and most of what we keep exists only to make the site work.
Who is responsible
The controller for this website is EvoSky IT Ltd (company no. 50203779141). For anything to do with your data, write to [email protected].
What we collect, and why
Server and security logs. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site, process your IP address, browser type and the pages you request in order to deliver the pages, block abuse and keep the service running. Logs are kept for a short period for security purposes and then deleted.
Necessary cookies. A session cookie and a security (CSRF) cookie, required for the site and its forms to work. They expire when you close your browser or after two hours of inactivity.
Preferences. If you pick an Amazon store, we remember it in a cookie (shb_store) for up to a year. The devices you add to “Compare” are kept in your own browser’s storage and never sent to us.
Store links. When you follow a link to a store we record the click — the product, the store, the page you came from, and the country Cloudflare reports — so we can see which pages are useful. We don’t store your IP address or browser details; a short-lived hash of your IP is kept for a minute to avoid counting one click twice.
Contact form. Your name, email address and message, kept for up to twelve months so we can answer and follow up, together with a one-way hash of your IP address used to limit abuse.
Spec corrections. The correction you suggest and, if you give one, your email address, so we can tell you what happened to it. Suggestions are kept as part of the spec’s history.
Newsletter. Your email address, stored when you sign up, together with where on the site you signed up. Every issue has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing deletes the address.
“Ask about this product”. Where this box is shown, your question is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate the answer from the product’s data, and the question is stored so we can improve the product pages. Please don’t put personal details in a question.
Spam protection. Forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a request comes from a browser and not a bot; Cloudflare processes connection data for that purpose under its own policy.
Analytics
With your consent, given under “Cookie settings” in the footer, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found the site. Until you allow it, the Google script isn’t loaded at all. Google Analytics sets the cookies _ga and _ga_…, which hold a random ID for up to two years, and records the pages you view, your browser and device type, how you arrived and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google states that Google Analytics 4 doesn’t log or store IP addresses. Advertising features and personalisation are switched off, and the reports we see don’t identify you.
The service is provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Data may be processed by Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can withdraw your consent at any time under “Cookie settings”; Google Analytics then stops and its cookies are deleted.
Links to Amazon and other stores
When you follow a link to a store, that store processes your data under its own privacy policy and may set cookies to attribute a purchase to us. We receive aggregate commission reports from the store and never your personal details or what you bought.
Legal bases
Necessary cookies, logs, click counting and spam protection rest on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The contact form and corrections rest on answering your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)). The newsletter and Google Analytics rest on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.
How long we keep things
Session cookies: until you close the browser. Preference cookies: up to a year. Google Analytics cookies: up to two years; Google keeps the event data for the retention period set in our account, at most 14 months. Contact messages: up to twelve months. Click records: without any personal data, indefinitely as statistics. Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe. Server logs: a short security retention period set by the providers above.
Your rights
You can ask for access to the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, or receive a copy, by writing to [email protected]. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. We don’t make automated decisions about you and we don’t transfer data outside what is described above.
Changes
