About hubspecs

hubspecs is a spec database for smart home devices. Every device in a category is written up against the same sheet — the same rows, the same units — so any two of them can be put side by side and read line by line. Each value carries its source and the date we last checked it. Where we couldn’t find a reliable source, the row says “?” rather than a guess.

We started it because the question that actually decides a smart home purchase — will this work with what I already have, and will it keep working if the maker’s cloud goes away? — is the one product listings skip. So that is the part we dig into: Matter, Thread and Zigbee, Home Assistant integration type, whether a cloud account is required, and whether anything sits behind a subscription.

What you’ll find here

  • Spec sheets with sources. Manufacturer pages, manuals, FCC filings, Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT documentation. Never retailer listings, never other comparison sites. How we source specs explains the order we trust them in.

  • Comparisons. Any two devices in a category, with the differences that matter put first and a spec score that only counts sourced values. How we score has the details.

  • Prices from Amazon. Amazon.com by default, with Amazon.co.uk and the other Amazon stores shown where they stock a device. A price older than 24 hours is hidden rather than shown stale.

  • Plain-language guides on ecosystems and protocols, and a buying guide at the bottom of each category.

What you won’t find

Scores invented to fill a gap, “expert ratings” nobody gave, or verdicts written from a press release. If a device has no approved editorial review, the page simply doesn’t have one. Owner ratings on the site are Amazon’s, labelled as such.

How the site makes money

Through affiliate links. If you follow a link to a store and buy something, the store pays us a small commission; your price doesn’t change. Commissions don’t affect which devices are listed, how they are compared, or what the spec score says — the score is arithmetic on sourced specs. Our affiliate disclosure lists the programmes we belong to.

Who runs it

hubspecs is published by EvoSky IT Ltd (company no. 50203779141). Corrections are the most useful mail we get: every spec row has a pencil icon for suggesting one, and you can always write to us or email [email protected].
