Every spec value on this site shows a source type and, wherever we have one, a link to the document it came from. We only use the manufacturer and the standards bodies around it — never a retailer’s listing, a review, or another comparison site, because that is how errors get copied around the web until they look like facts.
The order we trust sources in
- Manufacturer spec sheets and product pages. The first stop for almost every row.
- Manuals, quick-start and installation guides. Often the only place a battery count, a door thickness range or a dock footprint is written down. We keep a private copy of each document as evidence, and link you to the official one.
- Regulatory filings. FCC grants and CE declarations list every radio a device has. If a grant for the exact model shows no 5 GHz or 802.15.4 line, that is good evidence the device has no 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Thread/Zigbee — and we only use a grant when the FCC ID is confirmed for that model.
- Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT documentation for the integration type and what it exposes. A community (HACS) integration counts only when its own documentation lists the exact model as supported.
- Connectivity Standards Alliance records for Matter certification and the device type.
- Our own measurements, marked as such, used sparingly.
A brand’s page for the same model in another region can fill a gap the home-region page leaves, but only when the brand’s own documents tie the two together, and never when the brand gives a different value for the home region.
Unknown values
If we can’t find a reliable source, the value shows as “?”. We don’t fill gaps with estimates, with what a similar model does, or with what a reviewer measured. A “?” also keeps the device out of that spec’s comparisons and out of the score for that row, so an unknown never counts against a device as a “no”.
Changes and corrections
Every change to a spec is logged with the date, the source and who made it, and each product page shows its change history. If you spot something wrong, use the pencil icon on the spec row or tell us — a link to the source speeds things up enormously. Accepted corrections are made by an editor with the source attached, so they appear in the history like any other change.
Prices and ratings
Prices, stock, deal labels and owner ratings come from Amazon’s stores and are refreshed at least daily. A price older than 24 hours is hidden and replaced with a link to check it. Owner ratings are Amazon’s and are shown as such; we don’t fold them into the spec score.
